Horizon Europe sister projects

ORGANIC does not work alone. Five projects are funded under the same Horizon Europe call, and bio-intelligence is at the core of all of them. They share a funding topic within the co-programmed European Partnership Made in Europe, but each applies biology to manufacturing in a different industry. This gives the projects plenty of room to learn from each other.

BIOGEMSE is transforming the construction sector by developing modular building components inspired by nature. Using bio-based materials and robotic additive manufacturing, the project delivers innovative solutions that improve sustainability, comfort, and performance in buildings.

The BUTTERFLIES project addresses the growing need for sustainable and digital transformation in advanced manufacturing. It targets the widespread adoption of biopolymers in additive manufacturing (AM), using chitin and chitosan, natural, biodegradable materials, to reduce dependency on fossil-based inputs. By leveraging these materials within Binder Jetting (BJT) and Two-Photon Polymerisation (2PP) technologies, the project promotes greener production methods.

The BIOMAPS project aims to develop a fully circular manufacturing value chain for bio-manufactured plastics (vitrimeric Polyhydroxyalkanoates – PHAs- a groundbreaking set of bio-based polyesters exhibiting mechanical recyclability, biodegradability, stability, and durability).
For this purpose, modelling and AI-based tools are developed in BIOMAPS to speed-up the adaptation of vitrimeric PHAs to replace their fossil-based counterparts in the European manufacturing industry.

Bio.3DGREEN is an EU-funded project that develops a novel, bio-inspired, and bio-based graphene foam (GF) manufacturing platform for high-performance, sustainable components. By replacing fossil-based materials in key industries, the project enables carbon-positive production through a laser-based additive manufacturing (AM) process inspired by nature.
